Bandcamp is a rabbit-hole. Amidst the hoardes of people releasing music, individuals and labels alike it can be all too easy to bounce from one page to the next completely losing track of one's expenditure. Unfortunately, with the raft of material available on there, it's sadly very possible to gloss over some real gems as well. And if there's one you don't want to miss this winter, it's Warlok's debut self-release: the Soundclash EP.
Fusing the best bits of UKG's darker side with elements of early Grime and Dubstep, Warlok has delivered something really special here - a heavyweight 3-tracker for anyone who loved the sounds of 2003-4 (following the scene's storied demise). If you were around during that period you'll be all over this.
Similarly, you might have missed the darker edged steppers of that era and will be suitably impressed with this release nonetheless. There's been a resurgence in the darker 2 Step sound in recent times, with a leaning towards a techier sound than some fans of UKG mightn't be comfortable with. Here at NUKG 24/7 we feel this release really strikes a balance perfectly... and we can't wait to hear more from man-like Warlok. Salute, sir!
