Seemingly only weeks since he dropped 'Imma Kick Back' on Southampton's Garage Shared, Ruairi Rollins has returned via Section 37 Records with 'Damn.' - a joint effort with Leeds-based producer TØVEO.
The result is a superb, sub-heavy, musical stepper with plenty going on to wrap your ears around. It's a mature approach - particularly for two younger artists - & is a pleasant contrast to a lot of the more "simplistic" (for lack of a better word) stuff currently gaining traction.
Putting aside for a minute the high-level engineering on display, the beauty of this one lies in its arrangement - a skill often overlooked by people who've not made music before, & underappreciated by many who have. There's an almost question-&-answer type effect going on between the keys, synth stabs & bass - with the vocal cuts spread sparsely over the top in a nonetheless very infectious manner.
In unrelated news, readers will be pleased to hear that NUKG 24/7's own Strange Times are currently in the process of lining up a subsequent release from Ruairi down the line. Keep it locked to nukg247.com for more information on that as-&-when it becomes available.
