It's been a few years since Phonetix began curating NUKG 24/7's Jazz Step playlist on Spotify. The idea came off the back of his album, 'Jazz Step FM' - and featured jazz-infused 2 Step from the new wave and legends alike. It was an instant hit with a niche sub-following of NUKG, who craved a more laidback & musical sound - particularly during lockdown when it first appeared. So it was natural that the playlist would develop a small-but-cult-like fanbase amongst enthusiasts.
As time went by, the playlist grew exponentially in size. Where other curators made efforts to keep the scale of their playlists small & current - the focus of this one was not about being bang up-to-date, more creating a growing database of vibey tracks that suitably fit the "Jazz Step" description. And as the number of tracks grew, so too did the followers.
So here we are a few years down the line, with the playlist just having tipped the 600 track mark! The recipients of this prestigous honour are none other than Horsemen & Norah Jane - with their aptly jazzy 'Getting Older', which dropped this week via Talkbox Recordings. We couldn't think of a more fitting effort to be a landmark addition, & strongly recommend you go listen to it at once. The tune and playlist, that is.
