NUKG 24/7 Artist Interview Series: #002 - BWK Project

Since 2020's lockdown, Birmingham's Matt O'Connor (better known as BWK Project) has emerged as one of NUKG's leading lights - with a steady stream of hard-hitting, dancefloor-ready, bumpy 2 Step jams on near enough every label in existence.

Following early support from none other than DJ EZ, he popped up on DJ Impact's Highly Swung roster before turning heads in a serious way with an EP release on Marvelis Records; proceeding to then become a regular fixture on the likes of Nuvolve Music, Strictly Flava, Four40, Step2, Downplay, Riddler, You Know & more!

His sound - clearly inspired by legendary Steve Gurley (amongst others) - works on so many levels for so many of NUKG's selectors. It's how Matt has become one of the scene's most in-demand producers & DJs - becoming the only artist with the distinction of having recorded a guest mix for the esteemed Nuvolve Radio show (prior to its recent cessation).

We sat down for a chat with the man himself to ask what it was that enticed him to began dabbling with 2 Step, what software he uses, whose music inspired him the most & Nine2 Recordings. Hold tight for the quick-fire round at the end as well to learn about his daughter's hamster, as well as whether he'd rather be able to speak to animals or speak in any language.
