Also known as Sampladelic and FYDEL, Argentinian guitarist / producer Fidel Guzmán has been a consistent prescence in UK Garage over the last few years - though he's not afraid to mix things up a bit, drawing on a variety of inspirations and dipping his toe in experimental flavas which fit perfectly into sets of DJs playing Leftfield, Detroit Techno and Electro.
For the purposes of this blog however, it's his Todd Edwards-inspired 4x4 cuts that intrigue us. And we're pleased to report that there's a handful of them on his latest release, a 17-track album entitled 'The Underground Rhythm Vol.1'. 'Steal You Away' and 'Phoenix' are standouts, with creative use of vocal chops riding atop bumpy beats and rolling, rubbery basslines.
You won't find the release in the usual places, presumably due to the extensive work it would take to obtain clearance for all the samples used! Thankfully, it's readily available c/o Bandcamp - at no cost, no-less (though the generous amongst you might be encouraged to name your price for such a vast body of work).
