In a move that harks back to days when the likes of Benga were experimenting with half-speed beats on Garage-twinged sounds (the roots of what became Dubstep), NUKG 24/7 favourite MPH has switched gears with his latest Night Bass release 'Funk Master'.
Retaining his signature combination of complex sound design, sublime musical elements & hyped-up vocal cuts: Myles has flipped the switch a bit on this occasion by dropping a beat at half-speed - creating something which stands out amongst the myriad of gritty bass-heavy 2 Step & vintage Speed Garage currently doing the rounds.
Even with a typical 2 Step beat, the beautiful & ethereal strings alone would set this track apart... but - as usual - the young producer who seemingly can't put a foot wrong has managed to deliver something truly exceptional... & we're here for it!
It's also a continuation in the trend for AC Slater's esteemed label to dabble with releasing sounds which fall slightly outside the norm, pushing boundaries on the fly. That's something which has arguably been absent in NUKG (&, for that matter, across the music industry as a whole) - & we applaud it.
