Conducta has posted a statement to his socials following the deletion of a recent Nike advertising campaign which featured his collab with Biji, 'Gold'.
The advertisement went live on July 4th but the lyrics to the song (specifically "I like to wear my gold, like a Kurdish mom, London to Kurdistan") triggered immediate backlash from the media - with the inference that by featuring it, Nike was supporting "terrorist sympathisers". Following a brief silence, the global entity decided to shelve the advertisment altogether - removing all traces of it from social media platforms.
Nike's failure to officially acknowledge the allegations in writing places Conducta & Biji in a difficult position, as they're left to defend the lyrics of their song against people questioning their artistic expression. Conducta & Biji have condemned this course of action - stating that the company's actions set a dangerous precedent, marginalising Kurdish voices. The pair maintain that they are "dedicated to honoring culture & identity, spreading love & connection worldwide". Furthermore, it's no doubt a financial blow as - although the acts are presumably already in receipt of a substantial advance for the campaign - they'll no longer be able to count on receiving publishing royalties off the back end of it.
